1953: Diplomatic relations between Japan and Syria started

1953: Trade arrangements between Syria and Japan was signed

1954: Legation of Japan in Syria opened

1957: Legal assistance agreement between Syria and Japan was signed

1962: Legation of Japan upgraded to Embassy of Japan

1967: Japan Oversees Cooperation Volunteers (JOCV) arrangement between Syria and Japan was signed

1978: Embassy of Syria opened in Tokyo

1985: Technical Assistance Agreement between Syria and Japan was signed

1991: Japan-Syria Parliamentary Friendship League

1991: Syrian-Japanese Parliamentary Friendship Association

2000: Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, Yohei Kono visited Syria

2001: Deputy Foreign Minister of Syria, Walid Al-Muallem visited Japan

2001 January: Deputy Director General of the Defence Agency of Japan, Shigeru Ishiwa visited Syria  

2001 August: Vice Foreign Minister of Japan, Seiken Sugiura visited Syria  

2002: Vice Foreign Minister of Japan, Toshimitsu Motegi visited Syria

2002: Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade of Syria, Ghassan Al-Rifai visited Japan

2003: Minister of Electricity of Syria, Muneeb Al-Daher visited Japan

2003 April: Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, Yoriko Kawaguchi visited Syria  

2003 December: Vice Foreign Minister of Japan, Ichiro Aizawa visited Syria

2004: Deputy Foreign Minister of Syria, Iisa Darweesh visited Japan

2009 July: Extension of the Dispatch of the International Peace Cooperation Corps in the Golan Heights

2010: Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Defence of Japan, Akihisa Nagashima visited Syria

2012 January: Extension of the Dispatch of the International Peace Cooperation Corps in the Golan Heights 

2012 March: Temporary Closure of the Embassy of Japan in the Syrian Arab Republic  

2012 May: Meeting between Koichiro Gemba, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, and Dr. Burhan Ghalioun, President of the Syrian National Council  

2013 September: Ministerial Meeting of the Group of Friends of the Syrian People
