Appointment of Ms. Mari YAMASHITA as Deputy Head of UNMHA

On May 23, 2024, UN Secretary-General António Guterres announced the appointment of Ms. Mari YAMASHITA as the Deputy Head of Mission of the United Nations Mission to Support the Hudaydah Agreement (UNMHA).

Background:
 

• Ms. Yamashita has been with the United Nations since 1990, holding various prominent positions such as Head of the Political Affairs Office in Nepal, Director of the UN Information Center in Tokyo, and Deputy Director for Asia-Pacific in the Departments for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs and Peace Operations.

• Since 2020, she has served as the Representative of the UN Secretary-General and Director of the UN Office in Belgrade for the UN Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK).
 

Future Cooperation:
 

• The Government of Japan will actively collaborate with Ms. Yamashita, UN bodies, and concerned countries to support peace and stability in Yemen through necessary assistance and diplomatic efforts.
